How to clean your Pilates studio

After doing a recent client satisfaction survey I realise that having a clean and tidy Pilates studio is essential to the success of my ongoing business!

CLEAR OUT CLUTTER

  • I am now in the habit of regularly clearing out clutter in my studio.
  • Try rotating small props so they are not always in the studio.

CLEANING HINTS AND TIPS

Some cleaning tasks need to be done once a day, once a week, once a month or once a year. Following are some suggestions.

If you are in a group reformer or group mat setting, train your clients to wipe down their beds or mats at the end of the session.

Try to keep on top of daily cleaning so that dust and grim does not build up.

I now wear studio shoes. These are shoes specifically used only in the studio and never outside. It is amazing how much cleaner everything is because of this!.

DAILY

  • Wipe down the equipment after each person.
  • Put used studio towels in the laundry for washing. Encourage your clients to bring their own towels to use on the equipment.
  • Put used glasses in the dishwasher or hand wash them.
  • Vacuum the floor, the runners of the Reformer, inside the Pilates chair, and the waiting room upholstery.
  • Clean the toilet with the toilet brush – sometimes required two or three times a day!
  • Put all small props away. Train your clients to put small props away – it is good exercise!
  • Empty the bins.
  • File client forms on your computer, scan receipts, file digital receipts in the appropriate tax folder. Upload to your cloud server such as Dropbox.
  • Wipe over sinks and taps in the bathroom.

WEEKLY

  • Remove cobwebs at the entrance to your studio and studio ceilings.
  • Dust the small props shelves and wipe over the hand weights.
  • Polish wooden Pilates equipment.
  • Mop the studio, entrance and bathroom floors.
  • Clean the mirrors in the studio, entrance and bathroom.

CLEANING TOOLS AND PRODUCTS I LOVE

  • Chimos or microfiber cloths for polishing the Caddie uprights and frame.
  • Paintbrush for sweeping out the cleats and around the headrest of the Reformer.
  • Lint roller for picking up hair and skin particles and dust.
  • Home made beeswax polish for wooden Pilates equipment.
  • Tweezers for pulling fine hair out of the Reformer wheels.
  • Vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter.
  • Squeegee for cleaning glass and mirrors.
  • Spray bottle filled with plain water, or if you like a tiny bit of soap, never oils as this degrades the vinyl.
  • Steam cleaner for deep cleaning vinyl, Cadillac frame, pillows, upholstery, windows and mirrors.
